Linda Kinlaw - Class Of 1961

Linda Kinlaw

Linda was living in Novelty, Ohio when she passed away.  We don't have any details regarding her passing.  We do know she married Rick Boswell right out of college and that the marriage ended after seven years.

Fredric R. (Rick) Boswell (1961)

Linda and I began dating in our Senior year at RRHS and were married in the Summer of 1965. She attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH. We both entered graduate school at CWRU in the Fall of 1965 where Linda completed a Masters in psychology in 1967. For much of our time together, she worked as a family therapist at a children's services agency in downtown Cleveland. We initially had an apartment two blocks off Shaker Square, and moved to a house on Warrington Road in Shaker Heights a couple of years later. We both liked cars and owned a series of Saabs and Porsches which we used to compete in the Sports Car Club of America rally program at both the local and national level. Linda became an accomplished rally driver (I was the navigator), earning the nickname "Zero" on the rally circuit for her ability to zero checkpoints (a perfect score). She loved animals and at one point our "family" included four cats and a dog. Our marriage ended after seven years. Linda later remarried and had four children; one of her daughters, Brie Zeltner, is a reporter for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Linda was for many years the most important person in my life and will always be among the important people in my life. We had some wonderful times together.

On tests, Linda was another person who helped to raise the curve.   I also remember that she was easy to make laugh.  Because of our last names, she often sat in front of me and I could entertain her with my stupid jokes.  Her quite and reserved first impression would later change to a more outgoing fun personality.  She'll be missed.

Brie Kinlaw (Zeltner) (1961)

Linda was my mom. She was a smart, occasionally sarcastic, big-hearted woman who was always quick to smile and never failed to see the best in others. She had a soft spot for stray animals of all forms; over the years she took in injured and abandoned cats, dogs, rabbits, and even a peahen and its chicks.

She was a mother to four children-- me, my sister Ryan and two brothers, Drew and Craig. She was married twice, first to Rick Boswell '61 (whose sister, Gail, was also her dear friend) and later to my father, who loved her dearly and remained by her side until her death.

Mom should have been a great many things-- a writer, a counselor, an activist, an athlete. She was still a great many things to the people who loved her and knew her best. I appreciate each of the immeasurable gifts she planted in my heart as they appear and unfold over time. I see her there, and am glad.

Linda Ann Kinlaw died on November 25, 2005 due to complications related to alcoholism. I miss her every day.

Any stories, photos and memories of her are most welcome.
